Haggle over the phone

Hi.

I'm hoping to buy a new contract soon and its gunna be the HTC legend or Desire . Now the max i wanna spend is £25 p/m with mins, texts, internet and free phone, Know i now i can get the legend on vodafone for £25 and with all the above but i found i deal on the tmobile site for the desire ( HTC Desire Mobile tariffs on Pay monthly ) 600 mins, 500 texts, unlimited internet, flexible booster and £60 for the phone, Do you think i could ring t-mobiles customer service line and negotiate getting the phone for free instead of paying £60? is that part of the deal negotiable?

But am i in a position to haggle over the phone as this is my 1st contract phone and i cannot threaten to leave them as i am not with anyone, would it be best to ring them both up and tell them that 'blah blah blah' have offered me this contract with these mins etc and see if they would offer me a better one?

Thank you for your time.

    Not really.

You have nothing to threaten them with as you say, so they have no reason to discount the tarrif, especially not on a new and high end phone. Most of the cost to the companies is in aquiring a customer, retenting a customer is less but not insignificant.

If you want a free phone an a £25 PCM contract you need to look at an older phone not the burrent top end model, however you can always try.

It's always worth working out the total cost por the phone, that deal is 24 months so costs (£25 x 24 +£60) £660/£27.50 a month real cost over the 2 years, The 18 month deal at the same price for the same minutes is (£25 x 18 + 129) =£579/£32.16 a month real cost over the two years. Changing Tarrifs to the £10 PCM gives you less minutes and texts (100 of each) but cost less (24 x £10 +£164) at £404/£16.83 a month real cost over the 2 years.

The point is don't get hung up over the phone costing money, look at the two year cost and the cost per month in the costs.

Bear in mind with T-Mobile they include a free flexible booster option. One of the options is for unlimited texts so you could get the contract gjchester mentioned, add in the unlimited texts booster and you've got a desire £16.83 a month for two years with 100 mins, unlimited texts and 3GB data.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
