New Driver Insurance for older person

Hi all,

I am looking for cheap car insurance, but even with my partner as a named driver it comes out over £500 for fully comp when I use comparison sites. I finally got round to getting my UK license in November, so I count as a new driver, despite having had a foreign licence for over 10 years. Does anyone know of any 'new driver' sites which will do a good deal for someone over the age of 25? Most of them seemed aimed at youngsters. (I have looked at the guide on here too, before anyone mentions it! Still need to check cashback sites, but want to get a guide price for budgeting purposes first.)

If it makes a difference, I am planning to buy a 1 litre VW Polo, X reg, so should be in the 'cheap' insurance bracket!

Thanks!

Just over £500 for fully comp for a new driver over 25 - I'd say thats a really good deal myself - 8 years ago I just passed my test (at age 30 and female) and was driving a 1.2 punto - fully comp insurance nearly £900 with my partner as named driver (over 15 years driving experience at the time)! And that was the cheapest I could get even with all the compulsory and voluntary excesses on top. Even driving a 1.1 Rover 100 this year fully comp was costing me just over £330 so £500 seems fair to me - anyone else?

  • I agree with bezzza it seems you have a good deal already. I am 35 and passed my test in Feb and my insurance on a 1.1 saxo is £500 fully comp. That too is with my OH as a named driver who has held his licence 10 years.

Oh well, if that is the best I can get it then so be it, was just hoping to shave a bit more off with a specialist website, if anyone knew of one! This month is going to be tight as it is - the car is a bit more than we had originally wanted to pay, but a very good deal for what it is and should last a few years. There are a few days before the car becomes available as the owner is getting a couple of minor issues fixed before sale, so will phone up and do some haggling when places open after Easter, see if I can get it below the £500 mark!

have a look at going through quidco once you've found the cheapest. I got mine down to £155 (old lady, old car, 8 yrs NCB;) ) and then £55 cash back with CIS, but Kwikfit have £45 cashback.
