brake noises

I've had my new (used) car for almost a week, its a 08 plate with 9000 miles, but I have noticed its making brake noises.
It sounds very much like wire grinding or metal on metal. However, its not always possible to recreate immediately.
You can only really hear it when depressing the brake at low speeds.
I dont think it makes the noise until you have travelled a good few miles first.
Websites suggest pads or callipers requiring silicone.
I got this car from a main ford dealer, and given its recent servicing at the start of March and safety check before collection I find it hard to believe the pads could be worn on-delivery?

Never heard of using Silicone for brakes. Noise can be: pads worn to the metal (unlikely, as you say noise only on light braking), worn discs (ditto) it could be contaminated pads, or that the calipers need cleaning or that the pads are missing the anti-squeal shims, or need a spot of copper grease on the back.Websites suggest pads or callipers requiring silicone
Whatever, take it back to the dealer and get them to have a look.0 -
Brake discs are cast iron which rusts quite quickly. Braking scuffs off this surface rust.
Your car has done very few miles for its age so the build up of surface rust could be relatively large. The noise you hear is the pads scuffing off the rust.
Try driving for ten to twenty miles and be a bit more spirited with the brakes on this trip. This will clean up the discs and the problem will be resolved.
If I drive my car in the rain and then leave it standing for a few days I get exactly the same symptoms. It is quite normal and nothing to worry about.0
