How far to cc companies go back on your credit history?

Hi all,
Newbie here...
Have been browsing the forum and came across some threads where it was mentioned that some of the prime cc companies only go back 3 or 4 years on your credit history and if its ok, they don't look back any further.
Is anyone able to confirm that?? And if so, do you know which companies?
I have defaults from 2005/2006 (due to car accident where i couldn't work for a while and only got SSP - NB: accident not my fault!)....all accounts opened and run since then have been spot on..history full of green 0's...but I don't want to start applying willy nilly in case the defaults will still count against me! (They aren't cleared yet, I pay a monthly amount of each but AM NOT on an IVA)...
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks guys.
ps. apologies for typo's in title etc!!!

Have you tried any applications?
The answer will become apparent then!0 -
I have 5 years of great credit history, but defaults and CCJ's between 5 and 6 years old. I get some mainstream-ish credit, but declined for most. It's safe to say they do look back all the way.
For late payments etc. it may be a case that they only go back for 3 years, but defaults and CCJ's are a different matter I think.0 -

YorkshireBoy - I do believe that is marked on one of them, but not the others.
JonesMUFC - I haven't tried any mainstream - as their seems to be some knowledgable people on here, I thought I would ask on here first, rather than just getting another search on my file!!
Having searched the forum again, someone mentioned the Tesco CC as being one that doesn't go back the full 6 years...?0 -
I think that defaults will count for as long as they stay on your file.
A default shows prospective lenders that you don't pay your debts. Therefore it is highly unlikely you will get further credit whilst it is showing on your account.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -

A default does not necessarily mean you don't pay debts.... ever heard of satisfied defaults?
Some lenders do search back 3, 4 or 5 years. The majority of lenders i would think would search back the full 6 years which will reveal the defaults, but searching back 3 years (when you have a default of 4 years old) will not be shown from the search. The only thing will be revealed is the public data...CCJs and bankrupty will always show up. NID is best person to ask for this specific information as he knows how the credit search system works. What mainstream-ish credit you get TFD? Flybe?0 -

I looked at Flybe as there was a thread on here about Sygma cc's....their small print says you must have a completely clean file, so I didn't look any further.
Noah - you are quite right, a default doesn't simply mean you don't pay your debts - in my case, it means, through no fault of my own I was injured and unable to work which = unable to pay all my bills. I have been paying amounts off each on time, every month since.
However, I can see that the inmypocket was saying that you have had a bad episode which they automatically assume means you don't pay your debts. However, if that is the thinking, how do they account for 4 years of paying everything on time, every month!!
Also inmypocket - I do know it doesn't mean you can't get credit full stop - I have a mobile phone contract and broadband contract with the main guys in the market. ok my cc is vanquis and sub-prime, but thinking that the other post I read could be right, I could move that balance to a more sensible card - so yes if not totally mainstream, at least a little bit!!
NID - I'm hoping you'll read this and answer!!0
