SRJ Debt Recoveries – Trace Confirmation – should I call them?

Hope I have posted on the correct forum...

Last week I received a letter from SRJ Debt Recoveries saying I have failed to respond to previous correspondence (I didn’t receive any letter) and they have made tracing enquires for confirmation. Please contact us immediately on 08453137203 quoting the reference number XXXXXXX

Recently I checked all three credit reports and no missed payment or default information recorded. Anyone know what it would be? Should I really call them?

Thanks

No, it is a fishing letter, probably looking for someone with a similar name or a previous owner/tenant of the house. I would not ring them.

By the way its optional for people to report to your credit file, so some debts may not show.

I agree they are fishing, but out of intrest when you checked your credit file did you have to link some of your old addresses. I have read recently of several cases that after checking and updating files, people have then had dca's come out of the woodwork. I ask because I would like to check mine but am scared to.

    Best wishes handyman123.

  • i have had the same letter only posted to my parents address, my mum has a terminal disease and my dad is finding it hard to cope already so i dont want these people hounding me there, ive emailed them stating i dont live there and asking what it is about- just awaiting a response. over the last 14months i have been hounded by BCW group (via british gas) for a debt my ex partner didnt pay although i have sent them the proof several times that i wasnt living there when this debt accumilated (it started 18102008 and i moved out 09112008 so therefore am only liable for that small portion which is worked out by meter reading and ive paid it! when the full debt runs up until march 2009) because he is untraceable they continue to pester me about it to the point i have contacted the energy ombudsman, trading standards, and made official complaints to both british gas and BCW group to try and get this sorted ....and now just as i think im getting somewhere srj debt recoveries start! are these to do with british gas/ BCW group??
i have really had enough now ive got to stay strong for my mum im only 24 and dont want this hanging over me anymore the debt is £270 im so close to just paying it to get rid of the stress!

What was the of OFGEN and OFT reports, if they say not liable and they are still chasing it is harassment.
Would CAB be able to help, maybe counter claim them for harassment in court.

    hi

I had a trace which was followed up by a further letter requesting payment. I received regular phonecalls from SRJ demanding payment for sky subscriptions in 2005. The debt is not mine as I have checked my bank statements. I have now taken advice and have refused to take any further calls. I have sent a letter which can be found on the watchdog website requesting evidence to advise debt is mine. I have given a deadline of ten working days and advised I will refer to OFT and TS if they continue to hound me after this date.

Yep, sounds like fishing to me. Just imagine how many people ring up to query and are bullied and threatened into paying a debt that is not theirs?

They've probably got a debt and they can't trace the "owner" so they are sending letters to people to with similar names, addresses in the hope that someone will ring up that they can bully.

Do not ring them - the onus is on them to prove you owe the debt.
