New Claim Disability Living Allowance

Hi All My son Thomas has autism he is 11, we had to renew his claim for dla which after his doctors report was awarded High Rate Care and High Mobility, the last claim was awarded for 3 years from aged 8 Till 11, this claim has been awarded for four years 11 till 15, do they change the length as the child gets older does anyone know ?
:oAutism isn't the end of the world just a journey to another one:)

There is not a set pattern but it is not uncommon for awards to get longer on renewal.

If they feel his needs won't change, it would be inefinite. (like mine is) However, it won't stop them reviewing it.

I guess there is more likely to be changes in a younger child so the awards are for shorter periods, my son is also autistic and after having awards for 2,3 and 4 years his was made indefinate when he was 12, but I realise they can review it at any time.

My son (also Autistic spectrum) had his award first time for 1 year (he had no diagnosis then) I didn't bother to renew for 2 years as I think I was pretty much in denial and didn't want him 'labelled'. This time his award was given for 3 years, although I know they can and do review anytime. It has been around 18 months since that award. I do pray that he improves so he can be 'not eligible'-what a great day that would be!
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
