Setting up new Dell pc - various queries

Part set up my new pc last night but not sure on some things.

1)Help protect your computer and improve Windows automatically

a) use recommended settings (which includes auto updates, driver updates, windows defender, IE smartscreen filter, online help and customer experience improvement program)

b) install important updates only (without enhanced spyware protection, solutions to problems, driver updates and smartscreen filter)

I chose b as I was unsure about the collecting information and ceip options

I turned on Windows Defender at a later stage.

2) Allow my system to receive updates and alerts from Dell.
I agreed to this

3) Allow Dell to collect service tag and other system usage data as described to provide me with support software updates and alerts that are specific to my system
I didn't agree to this as I wasn't sure

I didn't finish the following:

4) Set up Security (McAfee Security Centre) I want to download Avast instead so didn't proceed but today it came up again. I declined the agreement but it is now asking to restart the computer to finish installing the program. Should I just let it install and then remove it after I've downloaded Avast?

5) Create Recovery Disc (Dell Datasafe Local Backup). I presume this is if I need to restore to factory settings in the future. Do I do this after initial set-up is complete or after I've put Avast on?

6) Setup Needed (Dell Datasafe Online)
Not sure about this one

7) Learn More (Transfer Data, Pick Gadgets, Getting Started, Product Support)
Obviously I definitely need to be reading up on this lot:)

Sorry for all the questions, hope you can help:o

1)Help protect your computer and improve Windows automatically

    a) use recommended settings (which includes auto updates, driver updates, windows defender, IE smartscreen filter, online help and customer experience improvement program) do you mean which ones to select or something else

    b) install important updates only (without enhanced spyware protection, solutions to problems, driver updates and smartscreen filter)

some people have auto updates set to auto download and some have it set to inform the user when a download is ready for download(again is this what you mean)

I chose b as I was unsure about the collecting information and ceip options

I turned on Windows Defender at a later stage.

    2) Allow my system to receive updates and alerts from Dell.

i installed macafee then downloaded avira/avast then removed macafee and installed avira/avast on my windows 7 pc

    5) Create Recovery Disc (Dell Datasafe Local Backup). I presume this is if I need to restore to factory settings in the future. Do I do this after initial set-up is complete or after I've put Avast on?

    dont think it matters

    6) Setup Needed (Dell Datasafe Online)
    Not sure about this one

    7) Learn More (Transfer Data, Pick Gadgets, Getting Started, Product Support)
Obviously I definitely need to be reading up on this lot:)

DCFC79 - Thanks for the reply, though I've only just noticed your answers inside the quote and thought you'd just posted the 'just a few things' comment:rotfl:

Yes, I DO wear glasses. I think it's because your answers were in the same font/colour so I didn't spot them. Sorry:o

1a) I took it to mean that I had to select ALL of them, which is why I wasn't so keen

1b) This is to install important updates only without the additions inside the brackets. I just wanted to know if this would be adequate.

    4) I'll have a go at downloading Avast, then uninstalling MfcAfee and installing Avast then

    5) I've now created a recovery disc (2 x dvd-r)

    6) Will do this at a later date when I have some photos etc. to put on (it's only 2gb storage though)

    7) Went back to these and read through them all

Still not sure about the other queries though.

    Thanks

1a) I took it to mean that I had to select ALL of them, which is why I wasn't so keen IE smartscreen filter ive not heard of but i dont use ie so cant really comment if its needed

1b) This is to install important updates only without the additions inside the brackets. I just wanted to know if this would be adequate.

    4) I'll have a go at downloading Avast, then uninstalling MfcAfee and installing Avast then give it a shot, like i said i must have installed macafee and i downloaded avira then removed macafee and installed avira

    5) I've now created a recovery disc (2 x dvd-r) on 2 discs, thinking about it its a desktop so yes sounds about right,

    6) Will do this at a later date when I have some photos etc. to put on (it's only 2gb storage though) it seems its just online storage for photos etc

    7) Went back to these and read through them all

Still not sure about the other queries though.

    Thanks
