Remortgage - are there better deals to be had direct w. lenders or via IFA?

Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this.

We're remortgaging at the minute - fixed rate with First Direct ends June. We have a (seemingly) good & helpful IFA but I wondered if people think its worth looking at any companies (beyond First Direct) who have deals which aren't available via IFAs?

Do lenders tend to have the best deals via intermediaries, or direct?

If so, any thoughts as to who I should approach?

Any input greatly appreciated!

First direct do not channel their products through intermedieries/IFA's.....they do what they say on the tin...Direct......
  • Yep I know that.... obviously..... I was asking if anyone else beyond FD do good deals which don't go via intermediaries...

If yr case is straight forward FD/HSBC (same company)
Advisers used to be given access to competitive deals...not so now..
Going direct is ok if yr case is straight forward and dont require advice...as most lenders have customer service advisors...not financial/mortgage advisors....

With an IFA you are primarily paying for a service. I've always sourced my own mortgages, but it does take a lot of time to research thoroughly. As there are a multitude of variables to factor in, in order to make meaningful comparisons of products.

Rate chasing may appeal, but when the next deal finishes you'll have another set of arrangement fees to pay.
  • well my IFA gave me rates of 6.7% called abbey direct and they offered 4.99 with no fee

    there is your answer
  • Thanks all that's helpful.
