Cheap laptop advice needed

Thanks so much, the Toshiba one looks good and I guess at least it is from a well known retailer. Understand the point about pc world and comet as have seen several threads on here which mention the (lack off!) customer service! Take on board the point with the external hard drie for a notepad but think for me it will make things overcomplicated! And think I would prefer a laptop size screen. Will have a chat with hubby re the Toshiba one, but for the moment I have borrowed my mothers, as she tends to use hers once every other year!0

Donnie, just been looking at the toshiba one and I have missed it! Note to self check when the listing ends! There are loads more on the ebay shop in my budget but I am confused at what I should be looking for? Is it the ram? or the processor speed? any advice would be very gratefuly recieved.0

The Toshiba at £240 is an excellent general purpose machine, both in build quality and function(built-in webcam etc.).
Once you begin to go over the £300 mark, it would be preferable to go for a Windows 7 machine. For instance, this Toshiba L500-1DT @ £304.
Full specs Get it if you can.
Though it's quite likely someone will get there before you.

Yes, it should be. Comes with a lot of useful software and some that is useless.
I spent a little time getting rid of some of the useless stuff; Google Pack, McAfee, Toshiba Assist...etc
See how you go... you have a thirty day trial of McAfee Internet Security, so you may as well use it. I ditched it for Eset Smart Security, but that is another paid for product.
If you do decide to get rid of McAfee, look here for instructions.0 -

Hello again, back on for help with the new one now! It has arrived today but I cant seem to get any of my discs to work in the disc drive. In my old laptop I would just put them in and it would play automatically, this one doesnt seem to do anything and when I go via my computor it just asks me to put in a disc, even though I have just put one in. Do you think I am doing something daft or am I a bit unlucky and got one with a kaput cd drive?0

Did you manage to sort it out?0
