Hiya,
I was wondering if some one could clear something up for me!
To be entiled to free school meals you have to be getting ctc but not wtc I get this part, the part I dont get is that you also have to be earning less than £15.000 a year!
We get ctc and wtc and get less than £15.000a year why can we not get them just beacuse we get the wtc part???
We only get Lower rate dla (for myself) and child benifit thats it....
I'm puzzled but more than likely being stupid too

That is correct, your WTC is designed to cover outgoings such as school meals. You are not entitled to free school meals.Gone ... or have I?0

because working tax credits increases your money significantly.
does depend on your area though as they trialed it in some areas for people who do get wtc. I earn less than the amount and he wtc and get the free school meals. It was only meant to be a trial period but it has been extended in my area0 -
This seems different in Scotland. If you get working tax credit and your income is less than a certain amount, I think around £6K from memory, you get free school meals for your children.0

You don't get free school meals if you claim WTC.
When I was a working single parent, I had a total of £10K coming in from wages and tax credits, but didn't qualify as I was working.
I did think it unfair that theoretically a family could have up to £5K more coming in from benefits, yet they would get free school dinners. Here I go again on my own....0
