Approaching 60

I will be approaching 60 in august and wanting to know what I am entiled from the state ?

Will still be working till I am 65. Here my situation I work full time and I also claim DLA for my disability.

Bit confused because I read somewhere that if you done 30 years full national insurance contribution you entiled to a full state pension but will I get it when I am 60?

Please clarify.

Thanks :j

you wont be entitled to anything you dont get now, when you retire at 65 you will continue to get dla(if you are still getting it then)plus srp and possibly a top up on that depending on circumstances
you are correct that you now only need 30 years n.i. cont but that doesnt mean for example that you could retire at 46
  • Got works pensions so I am sorted on that. But however do I continue paying national insurance till am 65?

You do continue paying NI till you are 65, as well as income tax.

The only concessions yu get when you hit 60 is a national bus pass and free prescriptions.

Apart from that you can ask if there are any concessions if you visit Museums
    Art Galleries,

You can also apply for a free companion on your bus pass when you get to 60 if you need a companiion when you travel. This will be done by your local council
It consists of a bus pass with a C on it (for Companion)

If you are going to retire at 60 and claim your Works Pension you won't have to pay NI on it, at least I don't pay NI on my ill-health Work Pension.

As for the bus pass - the Government is also increasing the age from 60 to 65 on a sliding scale from 6th April 2010 to 2015, after which you will have to be 65 - male or female to be eligible. I have just read this in a local paper, but haven't seen any other posts about it! So if you are 60 on 7th April 2015 OR AFTER no BUS PASS UNTIL YOU ARE 65

The OP has said he will work till he is 65.

I have not heard about the government raising the bus pass age at all.

I know that they are raising the state pension age on a sliding scale for women
    over the next 5 years.

I have put a new thread on regarding this, or try your local traveline.
