Customer Service when picking up Freebies?

Hi All

I just wondered if other people had mixed experience when popping in to shops to pick up freebies?

I went to a few counters during the recent Clarins mini treat promotion and I think without fail they were helpful and friendly. This week I picked up the free egg from Thorntons and the free Estee Lauder moisturiser - both girls were really surly and very unfriendly. The Thornton's girl spoke to me really rudely because I didn't realise she needed to scan the egg, the EL one slapped the jar on the counter and walked off without even saying a word.

I read some of the stories about Starbucks last week and a lot of them seemed very unfriendly too.

You would think that they are giving away something of their own.

im sorry to say that 90% of my experience with make up counter ladies, when getting freebies, or even just browsing, is incredibly snotty. i have made a promise to myself never to go into that domain again, even if free. i hate to be made to feel like a lowlife.
  • On the whole, I haven't had any problems. Everyone in Thorntons has been lovely - and I've picked up a lot of free chocolate lately! However, I had a LOT of problems getting the free Dairylea. The Co-op said that they no longer accept internet coupons.

The worst was Waitrose in Cheadle Hulme. They refused to take it at the till, so I had to go to Customer Services. A ten minute slightly heated (on Waitrose's side) conversation ensued, which resulted in the Manager getting involved. EVENTUALLY, she very reluctantly gave me the Dairylea. I mean we are talking about 99p cheese here!! I spend quite a bit in Waitrose, but I won't be any more if that's their attitude.

The best is Sainsburys in Cheadle who not only took a coupon for a free Finish dispenser worth £9.99, but she asked where she could get one! Hurrah for Sainsburys I say - I never had any problems there.

I gave up on them a while back. It's a waste of printer ink - they never have any left ... apparently.
