Can you not self install like you can do when starting a new contract? I'm pretty sure we opted for that as nither of us are in to during the day. Is there no ongoing fee even if you are on a lesser TV package (I'm on M+, and my understanding was that there was a £5/month fee for those not on XL).
Thanks for reporting all this!Hello.0 -
I haven't asked about self install as i didnt think that was possible, as you do not own the box ( like you do with sky ) so therefore theyre not responsible if you make a mistake in setting the V+HD Box up ( which to be honest a baby could do ) etc. You are right you do pay £5 per month if you are on a lesser package than XL for the privilege of having V+HD but they're saying you also have to pay £5 per month for keeping your old box ( set up or not ) but the girl i spoke to this morning contradicted this, saying i do not have to keep my old box so no £5pm charge, but as i said earlier a £35 installation fee has appeared.
Im phoning again this afternoon, trying to get this cleared up.DEC 1st Target £1000 / Current £15210 -

OK FINALLY..........I called Virgin again and here is the latest. Im an existing customer so therefore i can have V+HD Box for a one off fee of £75 and no extra monthly payments ( as i have XL TV package ) i do not have to keep my old box so no £5 per month charge there. Secondly, self install is only being trialled with virgin media staff who are customers and as yet not available until trial period is over ( whenever that is ) but self install starts at £15 and thats the setting up charge. On Mon 22nd there is a new box available its a VHD box and this does not have the record function th V+ has, this box is priced at £49 ( not sure if that includes installation though ).
Basically, i was told that offers vary for V+HD and that all depends on whether you are new or existing customer and if you buy over the phone or online.
Im going to hold out and wait and see if the self install goes live to joe public, dont want to pay £75 one week then the next can self install from £15.
Hope this has helped.DEC 1st Target £1000 / Current £15210 -

That £35 install is on top of the £49 for the box....totalling £84!!DEC 1st Target £1000 / Current £15210 -
Yeah, at £49 I could just about stomach it, but given the lack of HD content at the moment (sure , there is more coming, but prices will probably drop before that time anyway) £84 + £5/month is too much. I'm gonna hold out. Until more HD content comes along I'd rather get a freeview HD box than pay every month for Virgin.
PS. that V+ HD box is due to be replaced this year, as I mentioned above...Hello.0 -
i must of not seen that it was going to be replaced...definately hold out until then...might have it available in time for xmas.DEC 1st Target £1000 / Current £15210

When I got mine I didn't pay anything at all. I called retentions and told them Sky had made me a great offer - free sky+, mixes etc... They instantly offered me a free V+ box and installation. It was a few months ago, but still worth a shot!0

I called up retentions and said that the £75 I had been quoted was too much. This was including me having to keep my second box at a charge of £5.50 per month. If I did not want this second box, it would be a £99 installation charge. She said because I spoke to someone in the customer care department, they could not budge on prices. However, she was able to give me a price of £49 for my new box and my old box will get taken away. Getting it installed on 10 April!:xmastree: :snow_laug Christmas Nutter :snow_laug:xmastree:0
