What would you have done?

If someone had rang your doorbell at 12.30 at night, obviously i didn't answer. I had a sneaky look but, couldn't see anybody. As it happened to you?

I never answer the door late at night as I live on my own and it's a rough area. I get a lot of people ringing my bell late at night because there is a pub nearby and blokes ring everyone's door for a laugh on the way home.

A man and his wife are awakened at 3 o'clock in the morning by a loud pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push.

"Not a chance," says the husband, "it is three o'clock in the morning!" He slams the door and returns to bed.
"Who was that?" asked his wife. "Just some drunk guy asking for a push," he answers. "Did you help him?" she asks. "No, I did not, it is three in the morning and it is pouring out!"

"Well, you have a short memory," says his wife. "Can't you remember about three months ago when we broke down and those two guys helped us? I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself."
The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pounding rain. He calls out into the dark, "Hello, are you still there?"

    "Yes," comes back the answer.

"Do you still need a push?" calls out the husband.

"Yes, please!" comes the reply from the dark.

"Where are you?" asks the husband.

"Over here on the swing!" replies the drunk.
:) Maybe it was this guy

nope, no answer from here either.
If it was someone really desperate to get hold of me, they could phone or speak through the letterbox. :D

I'd be very wary of answering the door at that time. It all depends on where you live too. My house is well back off the road and i'd see someone walking back down the drive. If any of my children (they're older) are out at that time, i've usually phoned them to get some idea of what time they'll be home - or they phone me to let me know they'll be home soon. So if it was anyone I knew, i'd expect them to phone first.

Other that that, i'd automatically think 'police'.

I had that one night ... I'd been down my local pub, which was 5 miles out of town... while I was there, some bloke from the village wanted a lift into town so I gave him a lift. Dropped him off where I lived so he just had 400 yards to walk into town.

A week later, knock at the door. I shouted through the door, "who is it?" It was him, p155sed ... wondered if I was up and fancied giving him a lift back to his village.

I shouted to him to F off through the closed door.

I'd certainly answer the door, although I'd keep the chain on. You never know whether it's someone needing help.

I just read in the local paper, that there has been a spate of burglaries round here with people doing just that, when they get in they tie you up eek!
