Notice of dissociation

Howdy,

My wife and I are financially associated on our credit reports because we have a joint bank account with sharkleys.

Because of my crap report, it is having a negative effect on her applications, and to be honest that's not fair on her.

We have closed the joint account down today, with a view to having our finances dissociated.

My question is, how soon after the closure can we do this ?, and how do we do it as i cant find !!!!!! all on equifax's site, that's no surprise anyway, is there a set template letter to do it ? or a form that needs to be posted off ?

Wayne.

As soon as Barclays update the credit reference agencies showing the account as settled you can do the NOD.

    It takes around two months.

Botn yourself and your wife will need to raise separate NODs to each credit reference agency - Equifax, Experian, and Call Credit.

Six in total. One each per CRA - I did this last Feb and let me tell you it's a gruelling experience and once they say it's done you'll want to get another copy of your reports from each CRA (both of you) to make sure it has been - in my case they left bits and pieces and didn't do it properly so I had to chase it up a few times.

    Good luck! :o

Log on and then request it online - best to lie and say you're separated.

However bear in mind not to apply for anything right now.... the change would flag on N Hunter so if the wife applies for anything she should say 'separated' until about 6 months when she'll be fine to say married again.....

But you need to close any outstanding accounts that link you together before requesting a NoD :D

You can download the paper forms or ask them to send them to you.

I prefer to do it in writing as there is a paper trail to chase up the CRAs when they (inevitably) don't do the NoD properly. You need to state you are no longer financially tied in any way, i.e. you do not share any bills or liabilities or assets and as Niddy says, saying you are separated would result in fewer questions being asked by the CRAs.
