Just about to purchase our first home but starting to collect info on monthly outgoings.
Could anyone give a ball park figure on building and contents insurance.....
5 bed detached, good area, alarmed, 5 people, worth £325,000
Only ever had contents insurance so no idea on building insurance.

They usually want to know the rebuilding cost and not the market value.
Some companies just give you a set figure like £500,000 and ask you if that will cover it.
The other way is to do the calculation using this link:
