E111

I haven't seen this advertised anywhere and lots of people I have spoken to are not aware you need to get a new E111 form this year to get free medical treatment in EU countries. The new form only lasts until December 2005 when it will be replaced by an EU health card.

The Department of Health advertised the new E111 form back in October of last year.
Following the introduction of the new European health insurance card in some EU countries a new E111 form was introduced in the UK.

UK residents will continue to be entitled to free, or reduced cost, state provided healthcare when visiting an EU country. The new E111 form can be obtained, free of charge, from a local post office.

Anyone planning to travel to the EU this winter or during 2005 should apply for the new E111 - older versions are only valid until the 31st December 2004.

The new form is now issued on an individual, as opposed to family, basis. However it will only be necessary to complete one application form in order to receive E111s for each family member. The new E111 form will be valid until 31st December 2005.

By the end of 2005, the E111 will be replaced by the European health insurance card. It is possible to apply for the new card now simply by ticking the box on the new E111 application form. It will then be issued when the card is introduced in the UK.

just done this recently, complete new E111, get it stamped at the post office, they retain it, there is also a separate form to be completed for each person in your family, these are stamped then handed back and are valid until end of dec 05
the e111 form is sent of and the information on it used to issue the new credit card type of e111 , due later this year (approx august)
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

One tip about the new E111. Take a couple of photocopies of the form in case you have to use any medical services. The doctor/hospital will want to see the original and will need a copy for their records. By having a copy already this should save you time and prevent the original being lost.
