What are these £1 items i have bought

I have an Asda credit card, have done for 3 months and is my first credit card. I was looking at my balance which is 2k and i had just paid off my last statement in full so should have had 2k again,However the balance read £1,998.I rang the helpline to ask why the foreign Gentleman said i would not be charged £2 this is not a transaction it is something Santander do to see if your card is working okay and the £2 will be added back to your balance on your next statement.

As i have said this is my first credit card but this seems a bit odd or do all credit card companies do this?

All i can do is wait but keep checking my online balance and transactions.

Regards.

Some retailers don't process the full value of a transaction for an authorisation, they will just put through £1 to check lost/stolen, the value will be placed on the end of day report.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

Thanks for that hippey. All the purchases i have made last month have all been paid off in full last week when i received my online statement. I don't mean to sound thick but is this the card company doing the checks with the £1 or are you saying that the companies i have made transactions with have not debited the full amount because they have.

    Regards and thanks again.

Also if you add your card to your paypal account or any number of other accounts that keep a record of your card, e.g. mobile phone, sainsburys groceries, etc, they all charge £1 to the card to make sure it's fully valid before adding it to your profile.

It's very common to have a pound or two reserved (and that's all it is, a reservation not transaction) for a somewhat not memorable reason, don't worry about it ;)
