AM thinking of cancelling my sky package and swapping to a recordable freeview device. Does anybody know if this will save me money?

Why wouldn't it - you won't be paying Sky a subscription any more.

Difficult to answer that without knowing what you are spending on Sky. But assuming minimum package at £19.50pm, that's £234pa. Your cheapest option would be to use the existing dish and buy a Freesat PVR recorder (not Freeview), I suggest the Humax Foxsat HDR, about £230 on Amazon.
Or if you already have an aerial, get the Humax PVR 9300T, about £170.
Either way, you are saving £234 pa after the first year.

Thank you for your help - have got caught up with having sky sports / movies so am actually paying about £38 a month! Will have to live without that - but what a saving!

I believe I read that the average Sky subscriber is spending about £430 a year, so you are not alone...
