Sky HD

Does anyone know what is the best deal to get onto HD for an existing customer?

Had Sky+ for just over a year and want to change to HD as we watch alot of films and I watch the football alot. I know it's £10 per month and I was wondering if they will soon swerve that charge like they eventually did with Sky+ (especially with 3D being all the rage or soon will be)...

I know Sky is expensive but for £50 odd per month for all channels, broadband and the phone isn't too bad when you think about the rubbish thats' on 'normal' channels.

  • This is from their website :

Now everyone can experience Supertelly - take your first Sky+HD box for free when you take the HD Pack and stay with Sky for another year, with £60 standard set up (£30 if you take Sky Multiroom or free if you buy Sky+HD and Multiroom online).

I have seen that some people have gone the 'self install' route where the total charge is only £30, but I don't know how this is done.

I wouldn't hold your breath for the dropping of the HD channel fee. Sky have had a big demand for the HD boxes, no reason for them to drop the £10/month yet.

  • Does £10 a month get you access to all the HD channels on the sky listings? We already have a HD ready tv so is that all we need?

Im also told that there is double the space for recording than on the SKy+ box

The £10/month only gives you access to the HD channels within your current subscription. If the HD pack gave you access to all the Sports and Movies HD channels, nobody would actually pay extra for the packs.

And yes, the HD box does have a bigger hard disk.

It needs a bigger hard disc because recording in high def uses much more space on the disc.

The HD subscription gives you access to all the non premium channels even if they are not on your current package.

If you already have Sky + then you just swap the box. To watch in HD you need to plug the HDMI lead from the box to the TV. I wouldn't pay £30 for the install, unless you want them to check your dsh alignment etc.

    Ironman,

I've just signed up for Sky+HD after having Sky+ for nearly a year. They are offering a free HD box and free installation. Your only cost is the £10 per month extra for the HD content. Sky contacted me by e-mail (after telephoning me whilst I was out) so I should imagine you will soon be getting contacted by Sky to offer you the same. It seems like they are having a sales drive with the HD boxes as there are posters all over the place and leaflets falling out of newspapers!!

The expiry date of this offer is apparently 31st March, so if Sky don't approach you then give them a call. 08442 411 439 is the number I used.
  • ^^^I got one of these calls, told them I wasn't interested and they waived the £10 a month for a year :T

Thanks, they have said they will do us the box and installation for free (no mention of getting away with the £10 per month though.

I've only got a 37" tele so wonder if it's really worth it? Sky is already expensive as it is, over £50 with Broadband. Also the football season is over soon.

    Hmmm
