ESA Appeal Rate

Hi Everyone,

My mum is now on the Appeal Rate for ESA after scoring 0 points on the assessment.

She has been sent through forms to attend Pathways to Work Interviews, now I thought that was only if you were receiving full rate ESA? She has attended these previously, but is now on £30 odd per week which she is grateful for as it means she is able to get by just-she lives with me and OH and 2 young kids, has had cancer etc.

I used to work in the DWP 6 years ago in Income Support New Claims and all this is new to me.

Any help is appreciated.

My mum has worked all her life and gave up work 18 months ago, survived a year on her minimal personal savings which have diminshed prior to claiming benefit for the past 6 months x
Wedding on hold until 2011. Mummy to DD1 3/2/6 DD2 5/10/7! Mortgaged to my eyeballs!

Why is she getting below the ESA assessment rate paid?

Maybe it is ESA(IR) and maybe the OP's mother has other income.

I'm on appeal rate ESA and I'm going to pathways to work interviews too. I phoned up to make sure I still needed to attend since I was appealing and I was told I needed to. They really weren't sure though, it's amazing how little the people dealing with ESA actually know.

Personally I'd try to go to the interviews anyway as they are useful. They are there to support you, and give you advice on what help they may be able to give you. After my first interview I have opted to go on a course called Condition Management as I've heard good things about it. It wasn't compulsory (she mentioned this on a few occasions), and as far as I'm aware none of the things they offer are compulsory. I would love to get well enough to return to work so any help they can offer (much of it is in conjunction with the NHS) I will try to take up.
