Tip of my finger is driving me mad!

Options
I don't know what to do with this! The tip of my index finger is really REALLY itchy! I have now spent the night scratching the skin that its got a white film over it. Seems mad to see the doctor and I know I'd have to wait 'till next week for an appointment at the earliest anyway, its definetly not an A&E issue and NHS direct will not help with symptoms (its a rule they have).

Has anyone any solutions or ideas to try? I feel like scratching isn't even helping!

I have so far checked for splinters, paper cuts and bites....nothing.
I have tried tea tree oil, witch hazel and eucerine cream....tried itch releif cream and even after bite (which is essentially watered down ammonia) and nothing works! Creams and lotions don't seem to sink in anyway!

Going slowly mad with this!!!

  • erm you may have a fungal infection!!
try daktarin powder!! or stuff for athletes foot!!
Oh and get one of those finger covers from the chemist....or an old cotton glove works wonders at helping cream sink in esp at night time!!
    Baby no 5 due 10th Feb 2010
    Not very MSE:money:
:confused:still dont know how it happened:confused:

  • The pharmacist should be able to make an assesment of it and recommend something.
  • Agree with caroline, pharmacists are great on these sorts of minor things. Or failing this does your doctor have a nurse who will see people without an appointment?

the idea of fungus finger makes me smile though :) sorry jennie I'm sure you aren't smiling about it...

I just went to my pharmacist who after inspecting my finger said that hydroch...something-or-other cream should work stop the itching, didn't say what it was, if it is a fungal infection, should I see any pus or anything? its not done anything other then look raw after plenty of scratching and then dead skin where I have scratched away at part of the skin.

Am holding out for the cream to work! Thanks everyone!

Not a nerve problem, is it?

I have a part numb, itching, tingling finger that I constantly scratch, linked to a trapped nerve in my shoulder .

Did your finger go through the toilet paper and give you an infection?

Thats gross! And no it did not!! I think I remember something as traumatic as that!! seems us women have higher hygiene levels then some of you blokes!

Its not an infection, the pharmacist told me, that muc, there are no visible symptoms, no splinter or growth or cut to be seen, it could be related to the mega bout of eczema I am trying to ignore.... (I cut out all dairy for a month then put it all back in again) but its an odd place to start getting eczema and as I say, there are no visible marks besides it being slightly red due to the scratching.

I have some HC cream which made no difference, but then you do have to use it repeatedly to get anywhere and creams don't seem to dry into finger tips. Plasters just fall off as most creams have grease on them so I think I am going to end up with one massive bandage all weekend!

    Thanks for your help everyone

Ah! I never thought of that one! Actually that makes alot of sense- I have done a few new exercises at the gym and it was on leaving the gym I noticed it....it went away whilst I had a hot shower (muscles relax?) but came back by the time I had gotten 20 mins to the bus stop where it was much colder.

Hmmmm, maybe the cure is infact a yoga class and a massage!:T

You can get hydrocortisone as an ointment as well as a cream, which might work better for you, it's more moisturising if you find the cream's not going in well.

Sounds like a nerve problem to me. I had an itchy index finger for about a year, then had a carple tunnel reduction and no more itch!

My index finger on the other hand is starting to feel a bit 'different' so sure it will go the same way.
