Instead of signing on, why doesn't he just go look for a job? He's more than likely depressed as he's bored. Sign on to get JSA or make himself feel a lot better by going out there and not going through the job center. What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0

Pretty sure you don't get depressed because you are bored.
Even if you do, there are loads of different reasons to be depressed.
The question isn't even serious, how on earth is anyone supposed to answer that?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

But going on to JSA will given the help he needs to get back into work.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Sadly I think the question is deadly serious, only not having liked what's been said when she's posted similar questions in her own name, Deals is now saying 'my friend'.Lotus-eater wrote: »The question isn't even serious, how on earth is anyone supposed to answer that?
Deals, it's your call. But work on the assumption that he's not going to change. How long have you been unhappy with your situation? How long are you going to sit around feeling sorry for yourself without doing anything about the things you can change? What are YOU going to do about it? Have you been to Relate? - they'll see you on your own if he won't come.
But yes, he should sign on, whether or not he's able to work (and they'll soon assess that). He'll get his NI contributions credited, for one thing, and for another he'll get support.
But I'm guessing he won't. So what will YOU do?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
There is a million miles of difference between being depressed and being a bit down.
People use the word 'depressed' willy nilly these days when they are just feeling a bit down. Depression is an illness that you just dont come out of overnight if you just happen to get a job next day.
I really wish people wouldnt use the word so lightly, its really not fair on the peope who are really depressed.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Ahh OK, well without stalking the OP, what I meant was.....Sadly I think the question is deadly serious, only not having liked what's been said when she's posted similar questions in her own name, Deals is now saying 'my friend'.
If I said, I like green, should I have my kitchen floor done in green tiles with a gold rim around the edge, do you think that would go with my house?
That's what I mean by not serious, not only would you have to be brilliant at interior design to answer the question, you'd also have to be clairvoyant.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Sorry if it looks like I'm stalking the OP. I'm not, honest. It's just that sometimes a thread reminds me of another one, or a style of posting is fairly distinctive, and occasionally I do just remember a username posting similar threads. Especially if it's more than one similar thread.Signature removed for peace of mind0

First things first, if he hasn't so already get him to see his GP. They can decide if he is actually clinically depressed or "just a bit down". With that knowledge depending on the severity he either needs to apply for JSA (if fit for work) or ESA(if signed off as unfit for work). This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
