work troubles and holiday pay

okay this might be slightly confusing at first, but this is what has happened to me at work recently and i wanted to know if anyone out there is able to give me some advice.

I have been working full time as a chef for a large restaurant chain for the past 5 months, i had gained 9 days holiday which i was going to take at the start of march. The job had been incredibly stressful over the last few weeks, a manager had left the workplace in a terrible state for another manager to come along and pick up the pieces, chefs had been leaving and they weren't being replaced quick enough so it ended up with myself and two others working doubles most days without breaks, and working extremely busy shifts alone as well as having to train new chefs. On one day i was working a busy restaurant alone and training a new chef, another chef came in for his shift and left straight away, management had let him go (saving on labour) even though the restaurant was hectic. It got to the point were i couldn't mentally or physically keep on top of the kitchen so i walked out of work. I needed a break and i needed to make a point to them that they couldn't run a kitchen like that, i never got back in touch with work for two days and i missed two shifts in doing so, when i did ring up they said my contract was terminated and thats all they had to say. I have tried explaining before to management about how things need to change in the kitchen and they always say it will but nothing ever changed. Any advice on what to do? Or is there nothing that can be done?

To top it off i have always been under paid by this massive restaurant chain.

Any advice would be good advice.

thanks

  • I cant offer advice, but all I can say is if you are not there, who is running the kitchen? Sounds like they are royally screwed by how you describe things. Why on earth would they get rid of a member of staff who probably went beyond their job description is beyond me.
