Just wanted to know what elephant is like if there was ever a claim for motor insurance on my new car? Read one review site which made it sound terrible.

I believe they are part of Admiral. They use Albany assistance for claims and if you read about them this might scare you.
I have also read a few horror stories about them. One claimant had a car written off and when they claimed, Elephant just settled, sending a cheque less the remaining premium to be paid and excess. The policy was cancelled, so they could not use the remaining portion of the policy paid for, to insure another car. The settlement figure was just arrived at and it was pretty much, this is what we will pay, end of story. If you were not happy, you had to enter into a complaint and then go to the FOS. While other Insurers may also do this, it was just the way it was done. Very little customer focus was shown in the way the matter was dealt with. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
