new to this - barclarycard credit card ppi for 9 years - where to start?

I noticed the PPI on my Barclaycard statement today for the first time (I have had the card for 9 years so this is definately a lesson for me to look at them properly in the future). My debt has increased a fair bit in the last 6 months and on this statement it shows a debit of £18 for PPI. I contacted them to find out how long I have been paying for this as I didn't realise I had it and they said its been on there for 9 years when I first took out the card at the age of 18 (my 1st ever credit card).

Please can anyone point me in the right direction....?
Can I claim this back and if so what would be my first steps to take?
Also I didn't cancel it today as I wasn't sure what to do. Should I cancel it straight away?

Thank you for reading

    Hi there

For the reasons you have you can try to reclaim on the PPI, as you did not know you were paying for it then obviously they must have just added it, but there are also many other reasons too that may apply to you.

Below on the link is the guidelines of reclaiming, with a checklist of mis selling reasons, template letters to help you through this and useful info, when you write to them with your reasons they have 8 weeks in full to respond, keep at them is best.
You may receive a standard response that they did not believe they mis sold because you signed blah blah blah, but don't let them put you off, we all sign for our loan/credit cards etc, but if you did not know anything about the PPI until now then you have a good reasons already, but do also check on the checklist - of any other applies to you then do write them in as well.

I would not worry about writing down the amounts though, if successful they should send you a written detailed breakdown of how they worked this out.
I would personally post by recorded delivery for your proof of posting, and keep an eye on the 8 weeks they have.

Hope this helps, please ask for help anytime and please keep us posted, good luck.;)

Also just to add that you can cancel anytime as well, ask if they could do this the same time as reclaiming if you do not require this.;)

as Di says, write to them with your reasons for the comlaint regarding the miss-sale.

after about 2 weeks Barclay card will send you a questionaire to fill in requesting further details for your complaint, you can then give furtehr details or refer them back to your original letter of complaint if they are covered in your letter.
either way fill in this questionaire and return as this will then not hold things up.

they will then write to you after a furtehr 2 weeks saying they need another 4 weeks to look into the complaint,

then they will give you a decision. if not you go to the FOS.
I'm proud to say that the banks no longer take money from me after becoming debt free
  • thank you both, I will get cracking today and get it sorted. I really appreciate your advice
