Inexperienced ebayer- how do I deal with this?

I sold my first item. I sold a buggy a week and a half ago.(Think they're a company because of the things they've been buying (5 of one specific item in a month) and they said they have a lot to pick up. They're also not from my county) They paid immediately- said they'd collect it in two days, but would let me know (through email we agreed that they'd come after six). They didn't contact me.
Literally heard nothing until today (9 days later)- was out and checked my email on my phone. They said they were coming to get it today (emailed me at one). Been out since lunchtime, just got in- another message can you call me I'm sat outside to collect the buggy- at a quarter to three! Well I can't call them because I don't have a number for them.

I'm sure they're going to say I'm messing them about but who would say they're going to come and get something with very little notice and turn up over three hours early? What do I do now? I've emailed them to say haven't got a number, been out and thought that we'd agreed after six (politely of course). I really feel like I'm being messed around. What can I do- can I refund them their money and re sell it and also can you block buyers as I have other things of the same type to sell and do not want to sell it to them again? Thanks

Be careful if they've paid with Paypal as you cannot prove delivery of the item and they can, if they are dishonest, open an item not received claim and get their money back. Email them and ask for cash on collection and refund their paypal money is my advice.
It aint over til I've done singing....
  • If they do turn up to collect it can I get them to sign a piece of paper to say that it has been collected?

You can but it still doesn't count. Paypal want proof of delivery. I recommend you do what supermezzo suggests - refund paypal and get cash on collection

Did you offer collection in the listing?

I agree with the above opinions, you will be unable to prove they have it.

Be careful about refusing paypal it leaves you vulnerable to a non performing seller complaint, plus a complaint that you are refusing paypal , which sellers are not allowed to do. It also means that if they don't collect you can't even do an NPB on them as they have paid so you get to pay your FVFs.

EDIT: However, you do also need to be aware that baby equipment is a highly scammed area in this regard on ebay.

  • I've just had an email from them saying that they had just been in the area. They now don't know when they would be able to pick it up and do I know how much delivery costs would be, but I stated collection only. I don't think I'll be selling on ebay again :(

  • Don't let it put you off. I've been selling on ebay for 5 years now and for every 200 happy customers, I get one bad one.
Some people will never be pleased.
Next time make sure any items which are collection are paid by cash. Also items that are being posted make sure you always get proof of posting or send by recorded delivery.

You could suggest they arrange a courier if that easier than you getting it to a PO? Alhthough you'd still have to pack & label it then wait in for the courier to collect it. I wouldn't be too happy at someone just turning up and a) expecting me to be in & b) expecting me to be on ebay to pick up their message lol
