have just 'activated' my new asda credit card and been told..
'I must make you aware .. as you do not have card insurance, if your card or details are used fraudently, you are liable for the full amounts '
.. is this something all banks/companies are doing now?

You mean sell you stuff? Yeah, they're all up to it.
You're not responsible for fraudulent use of your card.
