Card Co Harrassing

Hi
My brother and his wife seperated 3 yrs ago, before he left she used his card to spend £80, instead of £10 for nappies. He subsuquently lost his job, and went walk about until last year. He has now found out that Barclay card have put on £570 in fees. He is unemployed and homeless and has told them that. They have sold the debt to a debt co who are ringing him every day. He has explained to tehm the situation. The CAB gas written to Barclays and asked that the intrest be stopped. They are making his life helland do not beleive his situation. I have told him I will pay the original sum of £80 but not the interest. He still has a acct with Barclays, but they will not discuss it.
What can he/i do? would they eccept the offer of £80? Please help.

Hmmmm! seems a bit odd. Did the card co send him statements every month, and did they have a direct debit mandate to claim the minimum payment? Did he have to include the card on the form needed to work out division of assets/liabilities and child support ?

If I were handling this at Barclays I woud not even consider a request for a refund without having all this info, especially as it's down to his ex.

Despite this horrible thing hanging over his head, I do hope he is now feeling better about things and is able to get on with his life.

    Linda xx
