I always find it an interesting comparison to compare the pay scales in a local authority of a care worker and a press officer. Gives a good indication of their priorities.

"[Being] paid £200,000 to sit at home for two years...has been a shameful waste of council taxpayers’ money and Rajpal's [the equalities manager] talents."

    The first bit is accurate.

what i do is irrelevant, other than to say that I work in the private sector and pay a lot of tax.

Not really irrelevant, given you're wishing unemployment on countless others you claim have jobs less worthwhile than you.

if i don't make money or justify my existence/salary - i will be sacked. that is life.

they won't pay me 200k to sit at home, or even to sit and work if i can't justify it.

that is called the real world!!

its only in local authorities that people earn fantasy salaries for not doing very much.

the council employs 57,000 people, but really, to efficiently do what it needs to do, it could employ 30,000.

I like this utopian view. Pretty much every private company I've worked for has had dead wood not doing a lot and they haven't been sacked.

Not sure what the big deal is.

The Council is being asked to trim its workforce by around 4% with most of the losses being accomodated through early retirement and voluntary redundancy (probably on enhanced severence terms ???).

"Staff in several departments have been sent letters asking if they wish to take voluntary redundancy and the council has said it hopes most losses can be made through that or early retirement"

Given that the economy shrank by 4.8% last year and the public sector has benefited from an unprecedented spending binge over the past decade I think that asking for a cut in workforce of around 4% is more than reasonable (nb also remember that significant numbers of council workers have had extra pay increases from regrading over the past year - including several years of backdating)

Maybe some of the councillors could be asked to contribute a little too by foregoing some of their generous expenses alowances.

There are plenty of well paid non-jobs still being advertised in the public sector too.
