Barclaycard Decline

Hi all. First post on the site. Had a look though the articles and posts, but I think my situation is a bit different.

I'm new to the country after moving from Canada 2 years and 2 months ago. It's impossible for me to get a credit card and I've tried everything and to play by the rules, well the ones I know.

Here are the facts. I'm 27, make 24+k per year, female with the NHS, 3k overdraft with BOS that was matched after I moved my account to Barclays. I never use the overdraft and always have a positive balance. I have ING savings account with healthy balance. I'm also on the voters list, all bills in my name, have about 6 dd's that are always paid up, and no bankruptcy, late payments, or anything like that in Canada or the UK. I've also stayed in this rented flat in Glasgow for 1 year and 5 months, the rest of the time was in a second address. I have a store card with Dot Perkins too that has been used and paid in full every month.

Is there anything else I can do?

HELP!

J

You may need to apply for a credit card like Vanquis or capital one. I am very surprise that your bank Barclays said no. If you apply for one of the card mentioned beware that interest will be high, just use it every month but paying the full balance each month, that will show on your credit file and after 6 months to a year you may be able to apply for a mainstream credit card. Do you need to have a 3k overdraft, it may not play in your favor. I would reduce it. Do you have a mobile phone on monthly contract? that would help.

Might be worth also trying to found that what is on your credit file with Experian & Equifax.

Definitely apply for your Credit report.

Did you try with Barclays first? How long have you been with them for when you did?

Your savings are utterly irrelevant. Credit card companies look at your CREDIT history and how you managed your debt in past. They make they decision based on that and on icome etc.. You have no credit history apart from your Dorothy Perkins card - which is still a start.

That is why most common advice is to apply firstly with your own bank - because they have the option not only look at your credit history, but also how you manage your current account. Other providers do not have that option.

It is viewed as bad news when you have more then 2-3 searches on your report in 6mths time.. So if you've recently applied for every card going, give it a break for some time before you start applying again.
