New ID verification questions

Interesting chat with an RBS underwriter while sorting out a repeat 0% deal on my Ulster card.

Because of the amount of the BT, they asked me to give them additional information that in theory only I would know.

Information was mostly family related e.g. family member street name, family member's age. The questions were all presented as a list of options and I had to pick one. None of the information was from any previous applications or from my credit report and none of the details were from any financial associations or linked addresses.

Curious where they got their info from, they confirmed it was a brand new system they've implemented from www.rsa.com but where RSA they get their information from isn't clear. Anyone else come across them?

Anything that helps keep my ID secure I'm in favour of, I'm sure the conspiracy theorists will cry big brother has gone too far and get the Daily Mail onto the case ;)

  • Are you sure that they already knew the correct answers before you gave them? Perhaps they were just setting up some challenge questions and answers to use in the future.

They gave me the list of options :) How would they know a family member's street name to include it in the list of options they give? :) And how would they know my brother's name to ask me to confirm which age bracket he was in? :)

    Interesting stuff, eh :)

It states on their website they have scanned in many public records and the information is taken from these, but how they can make the connection is more interesting.
