Credit file address problem

I recently noticed on my experian credit report that it was showing me as not registered on the electoral roll. I knew for sure I was on it, so I called experian and asked them about it. The person I spoke to said that she could see I was on it, but the problem was with the way my local council have my address formatted. My address is a flat and the proper way it should be written is:

Flat number
House name
Street
Town
Postcode

But the way the council have it is with the flat number written as the house number, house name as the street and the street as the district. Basically the council have my address completely wrong.

The experian person said the only way to get my credit file to show me as on the electoral roll would be to change my address on there to match the way the council have it. So I did that, but now the problem is that most of my banks and credit cards have my address written the correct way, so a few of my accounts have disappeared from my file.

Has anyone had a similar problem? What's the best way to sort it out?

  • Best way would be to get the council to change the way they have you listed on the electoral register.

    I'm in a similar situation:

New build, postcode is a brand new one and is G** 1NR & this is how all of my credit accounts have it.
Unfortunately the bloody council has me listed on the electoral register with the postcode of the other side of the street, G** 1NP. I also have had to register with Experian Creditexpert with the incorrect postcode as they can only register me with the address that matches the ER entry.

The main problem with this is I cannot get any credit despite having a perfect credit history!
If I apply for credit with G** 1NR is looks like im not on the ER & if I apply with G** 1NP it looks like I have no credit at all as all my accounts are registered with 1NR!!

I think the only people who can sort it are the council and they would have to update the ER entry to state 1NR instead of 1NP however I know what's going to happen if they do that, Credit expert will have me listed as 1NP from July 09 till now then 1NR from now onwards, making it look like a different address!... :(

Speak to the council and see if they can help.
  • I had a similar issue. I had to set it to the exact address the electoral registar had on file. You could contact the Electoral registar part of the council and get them to change it.
