I'm going to the doctors to check my fertility

I'm a bit scared of going but I guess I have to go.

My history is that my cycles are all over the place, sometimes missing for months on end. I was on the pill but came off in April 2003.

We are wanting to have our first baby but this is proving difficult. I did some ovulation tests in June and they where all negative so gave up. We have been trying since January (short time I know) but it is fustrating when your body isnt working properly so i can't find the right time to try.

Goodluck redballoon, my cycle was all over the place for years, anything from 3 to 20 weeks between. I became pregnant in Oct 2004 (didn't realise until late Dec 2004), now I'm the mother of a bundle of mischife and loving it.

Hope everything works out for you.

Have you ever been tested for polycystic ovaries?

thats what i am worried about. I have read up about it on the internet. i april i had blood tests and they where inconclusive.
i went to the docs last year and had blood tests and they where fine and then the doc did an internal examination and that was ok too. she gave me some tablets which was to kick start everything working and they worked and had a period then they where ok for a while so didnt go back to the docs but it's happening all over again now.

last time i went the doc said that i could be referred to fertility clinic and could give me some hormones to make me ovulate.

she also said that i may not be ovulating even when i have periods.

    Should i ask about pcos?

to make things worse, my friend has just found out that she's pregant after she's had loads of problems. I am so happy for her but think "why not me?"

I would ask - I never knew what caused my problems until I had an internal ultrasound.

Don't be worried. When i asked my doc, she was really nice and sent me for a blood test to be done on or around day 21 of my cycle. This was easy to book in, just had to wait for day 1 then call and make appointment.

Tests came back fine, and she said to make sure she wanted me to do another blood test on day 3. This has been more difficult. I was on holiday last month, and this month my cycle was all over the place and caught me early, so day 3 was monday - no appointments.

Like you i tried ovulation kits, but had no results. Doc said they can be be inaccurate, as some people surge early on, and i may have missed it by then. Also it puts stress on me to pounce on OH (he does shifts, so timing can be funny).

Meanwhile, i have got a couple of books from the library, and have another on order that has been recommended on this forum. The book i am reading at the mo has been really good, and i feel a little less stressed. Even things like not taking antihistamines (been taking daily for a long while now), and not sing tampons as they dry/reduce secrections, which i never would have thought of. So this month am feeling more positive and am gonna be checking secretions (lovely phrase), and keeping a record of everything in my diary. Also, apparently its natural not to ovulate every cycle.

I've got my fingers crossed for you, let me know how you get on.

The book everyone on here seems to recommend is by Toni Weschler - Taking charge of your fertility.
I have this one on order from the library at the mo, and am reading Zita West's - Guide to getting pregnant.

I saw a specialist (we've been trying 2 years), and my long cycles have zapped straight into classic 30 days by taking vit E and vit C every day. I also use https://www.fertilityfriend.com to monitor my basal body temperature, which will give an indication as to whether you are ovulating or not. If you have random cycles, you may just have tested at the wrong time. Of course, its no subsitute for getting checked out, but I must say I was simply amazed at the vit c and vit e effect.

I was trying for a third baby when still married to my ex. The first two were concieved almost instantly, and I was concerned when I couldn't fall pregnant quickly. I had various urine tests, blood tests and a laparoscapy but they couldn't find anything wrong and said it was "unexplained infertility" and just to keep trying. He left me shortly after, so I never went back for any further help.

I've since married again. I stopped taking the pill and we've been trying but nothing has happened yet. My cycle hasn't settled back to a regular cycle since stopping the pill, and amount of blood lost each time varies greatly.

I had the secretions this month for the first time, but unfortunately I've had a nasty cough and cold, and my hubby has been unwell too, so we were too knackered to do anything at the optimum time :o

When my second son was born, he wasn't breathing so they spent a lot of time keeping him alive which was the most important thing to do! When they finally got round to delivering the placenta, I was told it had broken up and some bits were still left inside me. I was told I'd pass these over time, and I've often wondered if there is something left behind that's stopping me get pregnant.

I also had a cervical cancer scare about 3 years ago, after an abnormal smear. A biopsy said the cells were not cancerous, but the hospital removed them as a precaution as they didn't like leaving them on there just in case.

All the family know we are trying for a baby and I get sick of people asking why I'm not pregnant yet. Unless they have been there, they don't understand the hurt it causes and how crap you feel when you say you are not.

Anyway just wanted to say I understand everything you are going through, and pray there is hope out there for all of us one day.
Here I go again on my own....
