My insurance runs out in 4 days and im a bit concerneed my policy has shot up massively

in april i was involved in an accident which the insurance said was 50/50 due to them not being able to prove liability, I never claimed but I presume the other lady did.

then in jan I skidded on ice at my work and hit a kerb this went through my insurance who have taken two years ncb off me due to the 2 'claims'

I am currently getting crazy quotes of £1400 instead of my old premium of £400.

I turn 25 in may, does this have any bearing.

direct line say because the women has claimed this counts as me claiming, and that on my insurance I cant put

accident partial blame no claim made???

ANy advice would be greatly appreciated I have tried all the comparison websites and all other mainstream insurances

the direct line police with the above is 'only' £960

Thanks in advance

It is not a partial fault claim, it would be considered fault, so you would have lost 2 years no claims discount. On top of that any premium would be loaded for the accident and Insurance premiums are on the rise anyway.,

But a rise from £400 to £1400 is a bit steep.

My advice is to contact a decent local broker (not swinton) and they will hopefully be able to find you a more competitive quote. As the last poster advised, I have used coop in the past and found them to be competitive,

  • this would be cosidered my fault??

I disputed it with direct line saying I wasnt happy but they pretty much said there was nothing they were going to do about it as it was my word against hers........

so like on the co-op where it says Type of Claim *

Did the other parties' insurer pay for the claim?

The first I have put whether and then no, as I skidded on ice,

for the other I dont know whether to put cross direction, vehicle collision, same direction no overtaking or wrongful interferance as she entered my lane and then cost of claim would be £0 because I didnt claim anything????

I want to fill it in correctly so that it doesnt come back to me

I think you would be better speaking to a broker as you can tell them exatcly what happened and they will know what to put on the forms for quotes.
I'm with Chris knott Insurance broker; you could ring them for a quote.

    Hope this helps

This thread makes very depressing reading.

    1. Insurance premiums will tend to go up if you make a claim.
    2. They will tend to go up more if you make two claims.
    3. If you were paying £400 net of a 60% discount the the base rate for your insurance would have been £1000. Add 15% for the current average increase in rates, plus some sort of claims load for having two claims, and £1400 doesn't seem so unreasonable.
    4. Saving £20 on a premium of £960 is rubbish. Ask yourself how the claims were dealt with by Direct Line. Comments like, "Co-Op are pretty good", don't actually mean anything without context. If the claims were dealt with to your satisfaction, and the Direct Line quote is among the "best" you have, then I would stick with the devil you know.
    5. You might consider buying back the claim without the third party to re-instate part of your NCD.
    6. Sort your insurance out more than four days before it's due for renewal.

What do you mean by this can I pay them what they paid for one of the claims and then that would restore me to 5 years no claims bonus, and mean I only have to declare 1 accident

Yes sometimes, Insurers will allow you to pay back the money claimed and are willing to reinstate NCB. Ask them if this is relevant to you.

direct line say because the women has claimed this counts as me claiming, and that on my insurance I cant put

accident partial blame no claim made???

What do you mean by this ? This sounds like the women claimed against your Insurance.

Sorry if this sounds blunt. If you unsure about how an Insurer has recorded the claims information, you need to ask them to clarify. Also if you are unsure about Insurance you would be better to speak to a company by phone or use a broker. Don't try arranging cover online as I have a feeling, you might make a mistake.

I would try LV= if you haven't done already - they are highly rated and were considerably cheaper than any of the comparison sites or other big players. For me that is. Plus they do discounts for some - if you qualify to join the CSMA for example. Despite being by far the cheapest for me I also haggled another £20 off the renewal on the phone this morning. I took out a NCD guarantee (unlimited claims) for a small amount - probably too late for that if you have made the claims though.

Some other practical suggestions: until you can get your NCD back you may have to play around with excess amounts. Check out the job description tool on this site too. There are some new pay-as-you-drive policies that might work if you can keep the mileage down. Finally there was a recent article on the BBC News website. Use the search box to find "Cutting the cost of your car insurance can be easy" - that might help.

According to that BBC article, average premiums for younger drivers are now £1275 so in that context £1400 with a couple of claims does not sound too bad. Apparently for younger drivers premiums have risen by 24.9% in any case.
  • Just one other thing to add, once you have found the best/cheapest company
to suit your needs, see if they are affilliate to any cashback sites, that could
    be worth another £30-£70?.
