120 pounds to reconnect after closing account??

I planned to move out of my house 6 weeks or so ago and terminated my line rental with BT. I rang to reconnect as my plans fell through, and they said they have disconnected my house from the exchange and can't reconnect me unless I pay 120 pounds for an engineer to reconnnect!!

I am absolutely fuming!! I only want broadband!

If there's as dial tone, reconnection should be free.

If you can't get one on Freecycle, a phone will probably be cheapest in Argos.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

£122 is the standard BT reconnection charge (the same cost as a new install).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Although, until 16-2-2010 at lease, you can get that waived.
