Reject For A Card Because Other One Has High Limit

Hi All,

Just applied for a credit card, got rejected so phoned. Apparently I was rejected because the available balance(my limit) on my first card is too high. Am not even using 5% of the available limit so I don't know whats happened

Is there anything that can be done about this?

Thanks

Mat

Ask your credit issuer to lower the CL, thus reducing the available credit to you and reapply again.

The reason they have rejected you is either because you have too much credit available to you in proportion to your salary and in their view you don't need more credit; or you have paid bills in full thus making little money for the prospective lender.

What the name of the lender that declined you?

Write a letter of appeal offering to reduce the limit on one card in favour the other card so that your overall credit limit with the provider doesn't change. Don't ask them to reduce the limit in advance - only if they will "transfer" some of the limit to the other card you'd applied for.

I am surprised that they gave a reason - normally one would have been fobbed off...

You could appeal or increase your income to available credit ratio.
