main driver for insurance puposes

Hi
we have 2 cars, 1 registered to me & 1 to spouse.
We have always quoted the main user as the person the car is registered to and the spouse as a named driver.
These days neither car is used much. Hubby actually does the most mileage in both cars, though I use the newer car more often (local shopping).
I am confused as to who should be the "main driver" on insurance proposals.
Can anyone help?

My understanding is the main driver is the one who does the most mileage driving the cars.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

The main driver is the person who drives it the most. However I'm not sure if this is measured by mileage (as the post before suggests) or the most in terms of time spent in the car. Thus if Driver A spends 10 months a year driving it but only does 10 miles a day (because most is stuck in traffic or low speed limit roads) and Driver B only spends 2 weeks in the car but goes all over and covers more miles than Driver A this may be important? The best thing to do it request how they define the main driver and go on that."A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on" - Winston Churchill0

Why not select the driver who makes the premium to be the cheapest as the main driver?

This is a conversation you should be having with your insurance company.
Having recently been involved in a claim the insurance companies now ask a lot more questions than they used to in a bid to find some details you didn't tell them about, or told them incorrectly.
If you have an accident and aren't the named main driver this is what they will concentrate on so it's better to get them to tell you in writing how it is defined.0
