Maybe so but I still stand by my view, salvage is a waste of time because the car isn't worth what a straight one would be worth and never will be. In the good old days cars used to bend around the point of impact and the damage would be failry localised, modern cars incorporate a lot more crumple zones and an impact tends to be spread further around the vehicle to cushion the blow, its not always immediatly apparent what has moved.

but if your keeping it a while it could be a genuine bargain.
paint damage or interior damage could also write off a car, this wouldn't affect its structural integrity.

mate there are some real bargains to be had from salvage, not always but sometimes some great ones.
I have brought 3 salvages and they have all worked out in there own ways and I have brought it under market value and made no losses. These have all been from places like copart and salvage auctions.

Anyway back to the original point, I have a VW golf worth around 12k cost me 8k over a year ago and I had a crash where I was hit from the back and the car was written off. The insurance valued my car at 10k however as it was written off before said I should get 8k and the cars salvage value was 1k. So I was paid out 7k and it cost me 500 quid to get the car back on road and as good as before the crash. Thats 6.5k profit and I still have the car which technically only cost me 1500. Its still worth about 10k. This alone proves that if it was worth it, insurance would have fixed it. Is just wrong and doesnt work in all cases.
  • Think it's luck of the draw....I bought a cat c years ago and never had a minutes problem with it, However my car was cat c damaged before christmas has had everything put right yet conked out this morning :(

I have been to salvage75 before and wanted to buy a car however the car turned out to be more damaged than shown on pictures and from experience I know that there cars are overpriced.

I am a bit spectacle as to why it is a cat c, it seems very light and should be a cat D however this happens all the time especially on lower value cars but this isn't that low of a value car so be warned. I'm not sure what these cars go for normally however salvage 75 are selling it so its definitely a lot of money for that car.

" Many thanks for your informative advice, husband has done a fair few cars before so this wouldnt have been a huge challenge. As you spotted the wheel is bent - in fact it was off the car when we went to view and had obviously just been lent up against it for the photo!! - would need new suspension and drive shaft and repairs to the sill and inner wheel arch where it had been hit by the wheel, not a massive problem but more expense! The condition of the rest of the car was unbelievable I should imagine it was a reps car and had been very very ill treated - scrapes, dents (not accident related ) everywhere - would need a complete respray. Chap did offer to drop price by £1,000 which we were suprised about but decided to walk away from it - interior was filthy, scrapes, dents etc looked like it had done 115,000 not 15,000 miles - just very poorly looked after. Had the rest of the car been tidier we probably would ve gone for it
