Help - Laptop Insurance Claim Issues

Hi all
Please help ...........
I am currently claiming for a laptop on my home insurance, and all was going really well until I refused to send my Hard Drive with the laptop for assessment. Initially I was considering my options and talking them through with the Insurers and was happy to take it to an independant inspector for assessment as they had suggested. However, now my Insurance company are refusing a 3rd party assessment and insist I send my broken laptop with its Hard Drive via a courier to their assessors.
Main reason's I am not happy with this is it is my personal data on there and anyone could access this, the mind boggles who could potentially get hold of all my information.
I am certain that you do not need to send your Hard Drive with a broken laptop in order for the company to make an assessment.
I have been unablet o find any information about this and would really appreciate some guidance guys.
Please help

Why don't you want to send it? Got something dodgy on there?I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

Definately not, it has all my personal details, hundreds of photos, stuff for work, currently doing a course (which has case study information) and all those details on there, and where I am considering setting up my own business all those details on there.
I'm not happy with pretty much anyone having access to all my personal information and details, feels like an invasion of privacy and my Data Protection Rights.
I have no way of backing this information up, and my insurance company cannot give me a valid reason why they want my hard drive, apart from its needed for assessment, however I know for a fact this is not required, as my day job is IT related I'm just not a techie.
I am very confused and feel backed into a corner0 -
Take the laptop into a computer specialist (PC World at a push) they can normally access your hard drive, do you a copy and then if you want them to wipe the data (I would not wipe the data without speaking to the Insurers as they may be wanting to see the hard drive to see when you last used the lap top and it was in working order)0

The reason they need a hard drive is that they'll need to perform a full assesment which will include attempting to boot up the laptop, which they couldn't do without the drive. You haven't said what the fault is.
I personally wouldn't want to send mine either so I'd be writing to the insurers outlining the concerns and suggesting that they supply a blank hard drive or have the assessor out to visit you at home.0
