Car insurance yearly mileage

Hi

My car insurance renews in July. With a recent change in circumstances I don't use my car as much as I thought I would this year. My estimated mileage for the year is around 2000 miles too many. Is it worth contacting my insurance company to tell them? Is it likely I will get any money back? (am with Direct Line)

Please be nice, am not very experienced with car insurance.....

    It's worth contacting them

I doubt if you will get any money back - but it should reduce the cost of your next renewal.

And you never know you might be lucky

Mileage is not a major rating factor for most insurers, so, as dzug1 says, you probably, infact almost certainly, won't get any money back, not for 2k.

It certainly might help at next renewal, though if you are dropping bellow 2k-3k a year, you might find the rates go up, as this is genearly avoided due to the people being less experienced.

Best to leave it and shop arround at renewal to be honest, rather than call up.
  • Thanks. Will leave until renewal :-)

When I was getting quotes for my renewal I put different milages in, 12,000 and 14,000 (I think it was about 7 months ago). The quotes came out at the same price so I opted for the 14000 to be on the safe side. I didn't want to put 12000 do more then have a problem with a claim if I needed to make one.
