Need some distraction please.

Hi I am sitting here getting myself in a tizz because my father is having his leg amputated at 3.30 today and there is only a 1 in 3 chance of survival.
He is 83 and has mrsa and been in hospital since April,he is in Ireland and I am in uk so I am watching the clock like an idiot and just generally getting in a state.

My other siblings are with him and will ring when there is any news, don't know why I am typing this I think it is just to keep my hands busy.

I hope you are ok. Take comfort in your siblings being with him and knowing that everything that can being done is. Nothing will distract you, I guess, and the worry and ''tizz'' is natural.
  • Keep your chin up, get yourself off to the Arms and read some of the nonsense on there, that'll distract you!!

Distract yourself as much as you can - scrubbing kitchen floor an option?
    I hope it goes well.

Thanks everyone I would normally throw myself in to blitzing the house but this is not an option anymore due to health issues, apart from wiping surfaces or a bit of furniture polishing this is all I can manage and even then only if it is waist height as I cant bend down etc.
Just thought I may try some ironing I can do this sitting down(even though I hate it with a passion).

Hope you're ok hun, hope the op goes well for your Dad.

I agree about the Arms, you can waste hours in there.

Or just read back on some old threads, that should help waste a little time.

Yup that's where I'm headed now,I do tend to spend far too much time reading on here but today I just cant sit still long enough lol.
Second thoughts it would be a lot better if I actually tried to sort my bulging wardrobes out, that way I may be able to find clothes that actually fit me, instead of having to empty the lot on the bed when I am going out.

This sounds better than ironing. When we are very stressed sometimes we can forget things...if it were me I'd leave the iron on when the phone rang.
  • Hope it all goes ok.. will be thinking about your family - waiting is awful!

Hi everyone I just rang the hospital and dad is just back from recovery the next 24 hrs will be critical they said.
He went down at 5.30 but there were complications so my family went to get some food at about 8 ish and the hospital promised to ring them as soon as he came back.
I got fed up of waiting by ten so rang the hospital myself and they said he was just back.
I texted family and they knew nothing about him being out of theater.
She said due to the mrsa he had to be last so they had all night to deep clean for tomorrows list.
Thanks everyone for the support I don't know what I would have done without it.
