Routes through/passed Paris

Has anyone got any reccomendations for a route past Paris heading south from Calais & heading down to Limoge?

Did it last week - A1-A3-A86-A6b-A10 - & it took about 3 hours just to get from the start of the A3 to the first aire on the A10 [Saturday mid am]

I've got to go again in 3 weeks time at around the same time, again on a Saturday & don't fancy a repeat.

cheers

    Hi Mcfisco
Seems to be a lottery as to wheather one gets a good run on the A1....A10 we have done it 1 hour and three :O When there were a lot of roadworks/diversions a couple of years ago we used the 104 (you pick it up AFTER passing Charles de Gaulle airport) it will take you round to the A10. Even though you seem to cover a few more miles the traffic does keep moving, usually did it in 1 1/4 hrs but it has taken up to 2 hrs due to an accidents!
We try to travel on Sundays, only lorries carrying perishables are allowed to travel on Sunday :)
    I hope this helps?
    Bon Chance

    Thanks Carmen,
I was pretty much resigned to to the same route again but I'll look at the 104 option

I've done it a few times in the past but never on a Saturday & when I came back yesterday the southern route looked even worse.
For the time being I'm stuck with going on a Saturday [once a month] so I'll probably grin & bear it until after the summer.

Now that most of the A28 has been completed, we actually tried it April and found it to be the quickest so far. Not so many cars on that route...yet? We travelled from Boulogne A16 Abbeville A28 Rouen - Alencon -Le Mans - Tours - Poiters - at which point it looks as if you can pick up the A10 to Limoges? Might be worth trying. If this HOT weather continues through out your travels, you need to get to your destination ASAP!

That doesn't look too bad, I'd forgotten that the A28 was getting extended [must buy a new atlas] - the last leg from Poiters to Limoge is the only bit that looks a bit slow but certainly worth a go - thanks again

Oops sorry, I meant the E62/N147 from Poiters, my route is the A10! Methinks you may have already noticed that.

Yes I did realise what you meant
Looking at it agian I think I may try the N143 from Tours to pick up the A20 at Chateauroux.
I'm going to be doing this run at least until this time next year so I'll try one or two routes & see which suits me best.

Hi, we got stuck in Paris a few years ago and so go around now. Got this route from some friends and now a whole lot of us use it. Used it two weeks ago on our yearly trek to the Dordogne, near Brive (south of Limoge).

Calais, Abeville, Rouen, Chatres, Orlean. After Chartres head for Orlean on the D route (N154 I think) then pick up the A71 peage when the N154 crosses it. After Orlean it's toll free. In Roune you do a stretch through an industrial park and it makes you feel like you have takena wrong turn. The ring road around Chartres takes a short while (about 5-6 roundabouts).

Mappy shows this route only 10 miles and 50 mins more than the direct Paris route.

Watch out for the new speed cameras. They are well signposted just before each one.
