New Laptop - I cant use Dial Up

Hi Guys

Im not a techno whizz at all. I recently purchased a dell laptop as my very old computer died on me! On getting it home I couldnt find a cable to fit in the laptop to dial up (I was a pay as you go Tiscalli user). On going back to PC World they told me it couldnt do dial up??!!

My husband has BT Broadband and we fitted the ethernet cable into my laptop and it works.

Question what will happen to my tiscalli (talktalk now) account? When I which my machine on it eventually throws up amessage about no port connection or something but I can access and send emails and use the internet?? Any assistance please or can I just go on using this the way I am? Will tiscalli close my account? Your great assistance would be appreciated.

You will probably find the new laptop doesn't have a modem hence no port connection message. Does it have a wireless network card? Do you have a wireless router for the BT Broadband, if so you can probably just use that..not sure about Tiscali as I fell out with them a long time ago before wireless.

No new laptops have built in dial-up modems, they haven't done for years. If you really wanted to continue accessing that email account then you could buy a USB dial up external modem, but pretty pointless if you already have broadband at home.

You'll need to get a dial-up USB modem - I doubt Tiscali will be stock them, or if they say they do then it's possible that the agent you speak with might misundstand and decide to send you a DSL modem instead...
  • You don't need to use Tiscali as your ISP in order to have and use a Tiscali email account. So don't worry about using dial-up, just use the BT broadband.

Isn't dial-up really slow? Didn't think anyone bothered with it anymore.
    I went away and now I'm back.:j:j
