When my car was parked on Friday someone slipped on the slush & skidded into me.

I got back to a post it note on my car with her number.

I've called it & she gave me her insurance details & her name & address.

But if I claim I will loose my no claims discount for next year won't I?

Its wheel arch damage (two year old car).

If its a about £200 or £300 I might be better paying to have it done myself.

I had an accident just over two years ago & I've now got my NCD back up to two full years, will be gutted to loose it:mad:

If you claim off your own Insurance your no cliams bonus will be stepped back by 2 years, in addition any no claims bonus you are earning for this year will not count. However when / if you recover your excess or your Insurers recover their outlay your no claims bonus will be fully reinstated and you will receive a refund of the extra you paid for the reduction in no claims bonus. You may however still have a load for having a claim as some insurers load for a non faulkt clam.

The other option is to deal directly with the other drivers Insurers, you can find out their contact details and policy number from this website for a small fee if you have her reg number https://www.askmid.com This will not affect your no claims bonus (If you do not involve your Insurers but you must advise them you have had a claim when they calculate their renewal premium. (You pay no excess if you go through the other drivers insurance and they will probably arrange a courtesy casr for you)

For a couple of hundred, I doubt it is worth it, would the woman who caused it settle without insurance involvement?

If you claim, your premium goes up (NCD regardless).

EDIT: just noticed your car is only 2rs old. I kind of assumed it was an old car.
You may be unpleasantly surprised when you get a quote from a garage to repair a 2yr old car unless the damage is almost un-noticeable now.

DO NOT claim off your insurance, she's at fault not you, I'd advise not even mentioning to them. You need to claim directly from the 3rd party's insurance. If you have her insurance details, and preferably a claim ref. no., give them a call and get them to sort it. At minimum you'd be wanting to get your car repaired at the garage of your choice, and a like-for-like courtesy car.

So are you saying I just contact her insurance & not mine?

I've only ever had one claim in my life (so not too savvy about it) that was two years ago & my fault - black ice - no one else involved.

Just gutted now that I parked legally & came back to a damaged car. The reason she was squeezing through such a narrow gap in snow/ice is because some idiot parked on the road/pavement (where they shouldn't park) opposite to me & made what should have been a decent gap narrow.

Shes OK, she has protected no claims, so no incentive to pay cash.

I guess it will be a silly amount anyway, 2 year old 4x4 - metallic paint:eek:

The damage is like a long gouge over the wheel arch, quite noticable.

That is exactly what you do.

I wouldn't mention anything about her squeezing through because of another vehicle. Don't embelish, just tell them what you know for a fact, ie, a car had slid into yours and left a note with their details, leave all the whys and where fors to the other party.

Won't they think it odd dealing with me & not my insurance firm?

Absolutely not, they will be expecting it. In fact they may even contact your first but I wouldn't wait for them.

If the other party has already spoken to her insurance co. then the chances are she'll have a claim no. It'll be useful if you could get this from her.
