Airmail printed papers...ever used this for non- printed paper items?

A potential buyer has asked if I would be willing to post to Spain. The thing is, the item weighs 2.7Kg. £23 quid from Payperparcel seems mighty steep and I'm sort of tempted to try and send it via Royal Mail.
Printed paper rate allows for up to 5Kg in weight? Does anyone use this for anything other than printed papers? Would it even be checked whether it was? Any alternative EU postal options I haven't considered?

  • Sorry not too sure on the subject but i wouldnt advise using RM for overseas post.

1 in 8 of my items going outside of the UK never reach the buyer.

so who would you recommend then?
given you have just said not to use RM for anywhere in the world, where its the receiving countries postal service that delivers it

I wouldn't send anything of value abroad unless using a signed for or Airsure service. Even sending the parcel as Printed Papers is going to cost you £20 for any sort of signed for service.

Printed Papers is supposed to be for sending books or documents only. If the Royal Mail twig the contents are something else they will return it to you and you will have lost your postage. The question is are you willing to take that risk for the sake of £3?

I dont send abroad any more - its not always royal mails fault as they dont have control of the item when it leaves the uk, i dont know why they bother where international signed for tho as it very rarely works.
