Burst water pipes and ceiling damage

Our water pipes have burst above our kitchen ceiling. The ceiling has water stain damage showing and we have had to cut out a small 3ft hole to get in to isolate the pipes.
Would the whole ceiling be automatically replaced under the insurange or will they just "patch up"? And will they patch up all the places where water stains are visible?
thanks in advance

If you can get the insurance to renew the whole ceiling i think you should.
We had a stained ceiling after a burst a few years ago and it took lots and lots of painting before it eventually disappeared.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

The insurer's appointed builders would repair the damage caused - the builders will advise if it requires the full ceiling to be replaced or if a partial replacement will return it to the level of quality it was immediately before the burst. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

2 foot hole can be patched, but you can't "patch" water stain with plaster - it would make the ceiling uneven. Try and get the insurance company to redo whole ceiling.
Hope this helps0
