hi,
I have just got married and we are thinking of starting a family, so i have been looking on the direct gov website in relation to maternity pay etc.
i am self employed so looks like i would receive maternity allowance, my husband is employed. I just want someone to explain tax credits? is this money you get off of your tax bill each month or they give you the money?
if someone can explain it to me in simple terms that would be great because im getting confused!
thanks

they give you the money directly into your bank acount either every week or every month.
I too am self employed and all I have to do is pay the NI when it's due and I will be awarded the full amount of Maternity Allowance available. Which is £123.06 a week for 39 weeks. If you have a certificate of small earnings and don't pay NI then you will only get £23 a week. Bit of a difference for NI.What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0 -
