Hang on £800 insurance for a 18 year old?
Fronting is illegal you know putting you parents as main driver when it is you that will be the main driver.
There iw no way an 18 year old can get it this cheap by them self.
Won't it be easier to get a season ticket for a train.0 -
can just about afford to wait a month i think work doesnt start till march.
Have printed and filled out the form just need to hand it in when i go to town later.0 -
Omigosh why are you buying a 2k car  Im earn almost double what you do and Im still in a Corsa I paid 300 quid for. Reliablity has nothing to do with price, find a good make of car (I really suggest a corsa/micra etc) buy it for a reasonable price (400-700) and insure it properly. Even with fully comp you can get a courtesy car.Aim - BUYING A HOUSE  by November 2013!Saved = 100% on 03/07/12 :j0

Okay, so I'm 18 too...
My car insurance on a 56 plate fiesta was only £670, fully comp in my own name. So it is possible to not pay an absolute fortune without 'fronting'
As for wanting to buy a car at £2000, in my opinion this is a great amount to budget for your first car (Sorry im presuming its your 1st?). Yes, some people only pay £500 for a car thats a great wee runaround, but some of us want to pay more. Its your own choice.
I agree that you should try asking your parents to take out the cc in their name then you can use it. As long as you make the pymts their shouldnt be any issues with that :-)
As for a cc, wait a months, then try your bank. My bank gave me one after i'd been 18 for about 6 months. They should have a 0% interest offer for so many months, you can keep this for car repair emergencies :-)
xWhats meant to be will always find its way...;)0 -

Where do you get this utterly false info from... My insurance @ 18 was around £800.00 albeit 3rd party. It depends on lots of factors, not just age.
This forum is great for the useful advice some people give, but is diluted by some real rubbish0 -

You can't speculate on other people's possible insurance premiums without first knowing the full details of the risk, and even that is varied from lender to lender. The most glaringly obvious difference between you both is that you're female and he is male. Statistically young male drivers have more frequent, and higher, claims. So they are a greater risk.
I doubt an 18 year old with no credit history will get a 0% credit card, especially as he's already had 3 applications/searches in a 3mth window...
Sorry OP, nothing very useful to suggest to you. Is it possible to discuss options with your employers and maybe ask if they will consider a hire car or an advance towards buying a car? Good luck.0 -
its a fuel card that ill be using, so company pays this includes my travel fuel cost to and from work luckily

Im thinking of a zopa loan, however you have to be 20 so im thinking zopa listings??
Good/bad??
Thanks for all your help really appreciate it
Oh my dear!!!! You need to get a bit of financial reading! I seriously think that we do need financial education for our youngsters. It's not their fault that they have no idea at first - parents don't talk to them and school doesn't talk to them - why are we surprised that they have no idea about real life?
Do you realise that if company pays for your fuel to and from place of work you get a tax bill on that??
You were worried minute ago that bank will charge you high interest - how much do you think Zopa lenders will charge you interest on 13k pa at 18 yo????0 -
I do need to learn about finances, i really do have no idea, havent been taught about anything like that. Not that im using that as an excuse, but a lesson or to while i was still at school or college would have been good.
Any my loan would be for 2k not 13k?? and sadly i dont have any idea. Went into the bank today and they refused on the basis i do not have £700 flowing through my account monthly .. So no go there.. Im gonna build up the courage to ask my brother tonight as i dont see any other options

I suggest you lower your expectations at getting a loan for 2k. Why not see if you can get 1k and buy a less flash car. Its that simple. You seem like you dont want to listen to any advice, so theres not much more we can say.Aim - BUYING A HOUSE  by November 2013!Saved = 100% on 03/07/12 :j0

I'd say it was a bad idea to even consider a loan without any sort of financial common sense.
Do you actually realise you'll have to pay the money back in monthly instalments, and get charged interest..... and the consequences if you don't?
This is why so many young people get in to trouble.. diving deep into the financial world without actually knowing how it all works. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
