Contact your council to see when they'll send out the canvass forms. I put my name down when I was 16 so I was properly registered as soon as I turned 18.0

After all, no-one knows your financial circumstances like your own current account provider, since they've been seeing your income, and how you manage your finances, for a couple of years haven't they?

Thanks for all your help. Any other advice would be

On the insurance matter £800 is very cheap for an 18 year old lad on even the lowest group car particularly if it has been declared that the car belongs to you and you will be the main driver. If your mum has not declared the full facts then there is a real possibility the two of you could find yourself in a bit of bother in the event of an accident. Is there any other way of you getting to work - lift share? public transport? moped?
Not trying to put dampners on your plans, but would hate to see you on the debt free wannabee board in a couple of years time!0 -
you NEED to be on the electoral role before any lender will touch you.0

Don't bother applying until you are on the electoral role. Can you wait a month? If so I would it will really benefit you and may be the difference between a yes and a no, even with your own bank0
